DIVISION 3 HURLING LEAGUE

Raheen Hurlers suffered an agonising 1 point defeat to Drumcullen in their penultimate game of the Div 3 League last Tuesday week in Geashill on a scoreline of 1-11 to 3-06.

The opening 20 mins saw Raheen open their account with 5 points but with probably their only 2 chances Drumcullen struck for 2 goals. Then with just over 3 mins left in the half a line ball taken by Paddy Rigney landed in the square with it was pulled on first time and buried in the net by Jason Hassett for Raheen’s goal and this was followed moment later by a fine point for Raheen from Paddy Arnold. This saw Raheen lead at the break 1-06 to 2-00. The early stages of the second half saw Raheen extend their lead with another 4 points to 2. Then midway through the half Drumcullen sprund a few senior players from the bench to try and salvage the game for them and it made a difference as moments later they broke through to score their 3rd goal followed by 4 points in a row which saw Drumcullen turn a 5 point defecit into a 2 point lead. Raheen created a few good scoring chances in the remaining mins their only score registered was a point from a 65 a minute into stoppage time and the final whistle was blown before the puck out was taken.

Clonbullogue opened the scoring with the first 3 points before Raheen got off the mark with 2 points. Then midway through the half Clonbullogue made use of the new square ball rule to score their goal when a shot came off the crossbar and tapped into the net by the waiting forward. The remainder of the half saw Raheen add 3 more points to Clonbullogue’s 1 and so at the break Clonbullogue were leading by 1-04 to 0-05. After 20 mins of the second half Raheen had managed to turn it round to lead by 1 after scoring 6 points to Clonbullogue’s 3 but over the next 10 mins it was Clonbullogue who swung the momentum in their favour adding 4 points to Raheen’s 1 to go back in front by 2 points. JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

It’s 2 wins out of 2 for Raheen Hurlers in the Junior B Championship as they easily saw off the challenge of Ballinemere in Ballinamere last Sunday morning on a scoreline of 4-15 to 0-06. Raheen got off to the perfect start when straight from the throw in with the first attack Jason Hassett’s shot came off the crossbar and Eana Direen was on hand to tapped it to the net for the opening goal. Over the course of the first half Raheen sent over 10 points in a row before Ballinamere got off the mark with their only point in the last minute. In stoppage time Raheen finished the half as they started it with a goal when a long clearance by Craig O’Halloran in the full back line was won by Paddy Rigney on the edge of the square who rounded his man and blasted the ball to the net and so at the break Raheen had a commanding lead of 2-10 to 0-01. Raheen put over the first point of the second half but Ballinamere then added 3 pointed frees. Raheen responded first with a point followed in the 12th min by their 3rd goal when Paddy Rigney’s shot from about 30m out trickled into the bottom right corner of the net. Raheen added 2 more points before they were reduced to 14 men with 10 mins remaining when Jason Hassett picked up a second yellow card.. Then 2 mins later Raheen got their 4th goal when Paddy Rigney’s free out around the 65m line was pulled on in the air to the net by both Willie Stynes and Ciaran Direen on the edge of the square. Ballinamere completed their scoring with 2 more points before Ian O’Halloran put over Raheen’s final point in injury time.
