U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U16 Footballers were unable to get their Championship campaign under way last Monday week when their opening round encounter against St Vincents in Geashill had to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch following a severe rainstorm.

U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

After all the excitement of the Feile weekend it was back to Championship action for Na Fianna U 14 Footballers as they took on Edenderry in Geashill last Friday evening and it was Na Fianna who claimed the comprehensive win on a scoreline of 6-05 to 0-03 without ever being tested. Na Fianna got off the mark with a pointed free followed on 10 mins by the opening goal when Ian Buckley picked up the ball out on the sideline just inside the 45 and soloed it all the way into the square where he flicked it over head to Cathal Curran to blast to the net. The remainder of the half saw Na Fianna add 3 more points and so at the break Na Fianna had amassed 1-04 with Edenderry having failed to register any score. Na Fianna got the perfect start to the second half by getting their second goal when the throw was won in midfield and lobbed in high where it was won by Cathal Curran on the edge of the square who turned and shot to the corner of the net and followed it up with a point immediately. Then on 7 mins Na Fianna were awarded a penalty when Colin Keogh was brought down and Kaelyn Thompson coolly dispatched it to the top left corner of the net and straight from the kickout Na Fianna sent the ball right back in where Cathal Curran was on hand to complete his hattrick of goals. With the game now well over as a contest Na Fianna sat back and in a brief 5 min spell midway through the half Edenderry finally got off the mark with 3 points in a row which would prove to be their sum total for the evening. Then in the last few minutes Na Fianna added to their goal tally with 2 more, the first from Ian Buckley when he burst his way through from about 30m out before firing his shot to the net and straight from the kickout the ball was send right back in where David Buckley was on hand to apply the finishing touch.
