JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Raheen Junior Footballers got off to the worst possible start to the Junior B Championship campaign when they slumped to a heavy defeat to Kinnitty at home in Geashill last Tuesday week on a scoreline of 4-13 to 1-05. Raheen opened the scoring with the first point but by the 10th min Kinnitty had opened their account with avengance by scoring 2-02 without reply. Kinnitty added 3 more points to Raheen’s 2 before they dispatched their 3rd goal in the last few minutes of the half and so at the break Kinnitty held a commanding lead of 3-05 to 0-03. Raheen did have a glimmer of hope as they were first off the mark in the second half with a goal on 4 mins when Jason Floody’s high shot from out on the wing landed on the ground in the square and Noel Gorman re-acted quickest to blast it to the net. Any hope of a comeback was wiped out moments later as Kinnitty first added a point followed immediately by their 4th goal and they then added 5 more points over the next 15 mins to wrap it up. The final 10 mins saw both sides complete their tally with 2 more points apiece.

RAHEEN: Fintan Pierce, Ciaran Direen, Declan Costello, James Garry, Eana Direen, Niall Carthy, Chris Floody, Noel Gorman (1-00), Colin McHugh, Craig O’Halloran, Sean Gorman, Keith Quinn (0-01), Eoghan Bolton (0-01), Nigel Gorman, Jason Floody (0-02).

SUBS: Jason Hassett (for James Garry), Stephen Byrne (for Niall Carthy), Darren Monagher (0-01) (for Colin McHugh), Fionnan Direen (for Craig O’Halloran), Keith Kirwan (for Nigel Gorman).
