FERBANE 7 A SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Last Sunday a Raheen Football Selection took part in the Ferbane 7 a Side Football Tournament which was played over the full day in Ferbane GAA Club. Raheen put in some very encouraging performances which saw them qualify for the Semi-Final where they were eliminated by the hosts and eventual tournament winners Ferbane. Raheen were drawn in Group 2 alongside Shannonbridge, St Rynaghs and Ferbane “A”. Raheen began against Shannonbridge and having led at halftime by 1-06 to 1-03 Raheen maintained their advantage in the second half with a number of well taken points to claim the win on a scoreline of 1-14 to 3-06. Next up for Raheen were St Rynaghs where a brace of goals from Liam Boland and Shane Carroll helped Raheen build a comfortable lead of 2-03 to 0-04 at the break which they held on to in the second half to again claim the win on a scoreline of 2-06 to 0-08. With 2 wins out of 2 Raheen were through to the semi finals with a game to spare. Raheen’s opponents in the final group match were Ferbane “A” and a half time lead of 1-07 to 1-02 helped Ferbane “A” to secure the win on a final score of 1-10 to 1-05. Raheen now moved on to the semi-final where they came up against a very strong Ferbane “1” side and a commanding display by Ferbane saw them build an unassailable lead of 5-03 to 1-01 at the break. Early in the second half Raheen did get through to score 2 goals from James Garry and Noel Gorman to give themselves hope of a comeback but as Raheen pushed forward in the remaining minutes to create scoring chances the space was left in the back line which Ferbane fully exploited by scoring 4 more goals to seal the win on a full time score of 9-04 to 4-03. On behalf of Raheen GAA Club we would like to thank Ferbane GAA Club for the kind hospitality and very enjoyable sporting occasion they provided for on the day.
