INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Having already qualified for the Quarter Finals Raheen Intermediate Footballers had to settle for a draw against Doon last Saturday evening in O’Connor Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 0-10 apiece as they concluded the group stage of the Championship. The first half was nip and tuck and a couple of points for Doon midway through the half put them 3 points ahead but 2 points for Raheen in the last 5 mins meant Doon led by just the minimum at the break 0-05 to 0-04. Raheen drew level with the first point of second half before the most controversial moment of the half came about 5 mins in when Raheen had what appeared to be a legitimate goal disallowed for a square ball. Raheen responded immediately by putting over a free to go in front for the first time. Doon then scored the next 3 points before Raheen hit back with 3 points of their own. The sides then exchanged a pointed free apiece and so with 5 mins left Raheen were leading by a point. Then as the game went into stoppage time Doon won a free about 20m out and to the left of the post which they sent over to tie it up. The resultant kick out saw the whistle blown for full time. Raheen now move on to play Durrow in the Quarter Final on the weekend after next.
