JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Hurlers chalked up their first point of their Junior Championship campaign last Monday week as they earned a draw against last year’s beaten finalist Kilcorrmac / Killoughey in Geashill on a scoreline of 2-08 to 1-11. Raheen opened the scoring with a point from Michael James Pierce inside the first minute. For the remainder of the half K/K got up and running as they scored 1-07 but Raheen kept themselves in touch with 4 points from Ciaran Direen (3) and Richie Reynolds and so at the break K/K led by 1-07 to 0-05. Raheen got the perfect start to the second half when Ciaran Direen reacted quickest to the keeper spilling a shot as he blasted the ball to the net for Raheen’s first goal. K/K added 3 more points with Raheen replying with a pointed free from Ciaran Direen. Then in the 21st min when Richie Reynolds picked up the ball just inside the half he had only 1 thing on his mind as he ran the whole way into the square before burying the ball in the net for Raheen’s second goal. K/K hit back with their final point to go 2 points ahead but in stoppage time Ciaran Direen fired over 2 long distance points to salvage the draw for Raheen.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Intermediate Footballers virtually assured themselves of place in the Intermediate Championship Quarter Finals yet again following a hard earned win over Kilclonfert in the penultimate game of the group stage last Friday evening in Walsh Island on a scoreline of 1-08 to 0-07. The first half saw the sides trade points until the last few minutes when Kilclonfert put over 2 points without reply which saw them go in at the break leading 0-05 to 0-03. Raheen came out in the second half and got the 2 points within 10 mins to draw level. For the next 10 mins Raheen completely dominated the possession including having 4 or 5 freekicks but just could not get the leading score. Then in the 21st min cane the decisive moment of the game when a run in on goal saw the ball come off the crossbar and into the hands of the Raheen man who buried the ball to the net for the only goal of the game. This proved to be the confidence booster Raheen needed and they sealed the win by adding 3 points in a row over the next few mins. Kilclonfert ensured a tense finish by sending over 2 points in the last 5 mins and had at least 2 goal chances cleared off the line by Raheen backs but Raheen held on to claim the win.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Raheen Junior Footballers lost out to Rhode in their final game of the group stage of the Junior B Championship campaign last Sunday morning in Geashill on a scoreline of 1-08 to 0-14. The damage was done in the first half as Rhode opened up the Raheen defence putting over 9 points and Raheen replying with just 3 points from Darren Monagher (2) and Garrett Garry. Raheen got the ideal start to the second half when a 45 inside the first min taken by Garrett Garry was won by Jimmy Coughlan on the edge of the square whose shot was blocked down by the keeper and taken by Darren Monagher who shot towards the top corner of the net where Colin McHugh was on hand to blast the ball to the net for the only goal. Rhode wiped out the goal by tagging on the next 3 points before Raheen came back with 4 points from Eoghan Bolton (2), Paddy Arnold and Jimmy Coughlan to reduce the deficit to 2 points. Then in the last 5 mins Rhode wrapped up the win with their final 2 points as Raheen coulld add just 1 more point from Eoghan Bolton but were unlucky not to draw level in stoppage time when Jimmy Coughlans shot for goal went just inches wide. Raheen must now await the result of the other match in the group between Tubber and Erin Rovers to see if they can progress to the quarter final.
