U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Na Fianna U14 Footballers got their Championship campaign right back on track with a comprehensive win over Shamrocks in Mucklagh last Monday week on a scoreline of 4-14 to 3-08. Shamrocks were first off the mark with the first 3 points before Na Fianna opened their account with a point. In the 10th minute Na Fianna struck their first goal when Dylan Hyland took a free about 30m out, kicking the ball high in the air and caught by Kevin Kinahan in the square who shot it straight to the top of the net. Na Fianna then added 3 points to Shamrocks 1 before Na Fianna dispatched their 2nd goal in the 21st min when Liam Langton passed the ball into Jack O’Brien in the clear just outside the box to run in and shoot it past the keeper to the net. Na Fianna this time added 4 points to Shamrocks 1 before Shamrocks were awarded a penalty in injury time which they converted for their first goal. Na Fianna went into the break leading by 2-08 to 1-05. Shamrocks gave themselves hope with the first 2 points of the secomd half but this was quashed as Kevin Kinahan calmly slotted home Na Fianna’s 3rd goal in the 5th min and Dylan Hyland tagged on another hattrick of points before John Tobin blasted in Na Fianna’s 4th goal with less than 10 mins remaining. Na Fianna completed their scoring with their final 2 points from Kevin Kinahan. In the last 5 mins Shamrocks reduced the deficit by scoring 2-01 but by this stage Na Fianna had the game well and truly wrapped up and these proved to be just consolations scores.
