Ferbane GAA Club notes for Week Ending 2nd July
Féile Peil na nÓg
Best of luck to the girls of Ferbane/DSB who today will take part in Féile Peil na nÓg in Cork. The tournament began yesterday (Thursday) with a game against host club Beara, and today the Offaly and Leinster Féile champions play Kinsale and Emyvale of Monaghan. Best of luck to all the girls taking part and to all the parents, supporters, mentors and well wishers that have made the long trip down, and hopefully it will be an enjoyable and memorable trip for everyone involved.
Junior A Championship Result
The junior A footballers got off to a comfortable start in their championship on Wednesday evening in Ferbane, recording a very easy 6-17 to 0-4 win over a disappointing Shamrocks team. The 2010 Junior A finalists were clearly heavily depleted and even though Ferbane started with only one score from their first five chances, an excellent pass from Dermot Daly into David Lowry gave the full forward a great goal chance which he duly took.
Ferbane stepped up the pace for the remainder of the first half and goals for Joe Maher, Shane Nally and a second from David Lowry all but wrapped up the match by half time with the score at 4-6 to 0-3. The second half continued in the same vein, with further goals from Joe Maher and substitute Aidan Wynne adding further gloss to the scoreline.
The full team and scorers:
Paul Wynne; Stephen Wren, Willie Farrell, James Nally; Dermot Kenny (0-1), Eddie Lowry, Noel Buckley (0-2); Ciarán Cahill (0-1), Shane Nally (1-0); Joe Maher (2-4, 0-1 free), Diarmuid Carroll (0-1), Liam Taylor; Dermot Daly (0-2), David Lowry (2-1), Eoghan Lowry (0-4).
Subs: Aidan Wynne (1-1) for Ciarán Cahill, Conor Lowry for David Lowry.
Junior A Championship Fixture
The next round of the Junior A football championship takes place next Thursday, 7th July, in O’Brien Park against Tullamore. The match throws in at 7.30pm and promises to be a much tougher fixture as Tullamore had a big win over Edenderry in their first round fixture. All support is most welcome.
Junior B Championship
The first round of the Junior B football championship took place last night (Thursday) in Rhode, but too late for inclusion in this publication. The next fixture is on Friday the 8th of July at home to Erin Rovers at 7.30pm. All players are asked to be at the field for 6.45pm.
Senior Football League
The Senior footballers play Shannonbridge in the Division 2 league semi final tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm in Cloghan. It’s crucial that the senior footballers get back to division one in order to get better quality preparation and games for next year’s championship so supporters are again asked to try and make the short spin to Cloghan to help out the team.
