INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 2
Raheen Intermediate Footballers got their first point of their Championship campaign when they had to settle for a draw in their Round 2 encounter against Clonbullogue in Gracefield last Friday evening on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-07. Raheen opened the scoring with a point in the 6th minute. Over the next 10 mins Clonbullogue got themselves off the mark and edged ahead with 4 points in a row but over the remainder of the half Raheen hit back with 5 points without reply to go back in front and so at half time Raheen led by 0-06 to 0-04. The early stages of the second half saw both sides add a further point apiece. Ten minutes into the second half Clonbullogue’s high tally of yellow cards caught up with them when their wing back received his second yellow and was sent off and they were further punished as Raheen then added 2 points. In the 16th minute Clonbullogue were right back in the game as they drew level by scoring the only goal when a sideline ball was worked in quickly and scrambled over the line into the net. Raheen did re-establish a 2 point lead but also suffered a blow when influential midfielder Padraig Bracken was forced off injured. Then in the last 2 minutes of normal time Clonbullogue won 2 frees inside the 45 which they duly put over to tie it up and in the 5 or so minutes of injury time that followed neither side could find the winning score from the chances they had.
