Na Fianna GAA Football Club Club Notes

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U16 Footballers suffered their second defeat in the 5th round of their Championship campaign last Monday week against Shamrocks in Ballinagar on a scoreline of 4-09 to 1-06. Shamrocks as one of the favourites to win out the championship were always going to be a tough challenge for Na Fianna which it proved to be as they steadily built up a lead in the first half and so at the break Shamrocks led by 2-04 to 0-02. Unfortunately the second half followed a similar pattern as Shamrocks tagged on another 2-05 to which Na Fianna replied with 1-04 with the goal coming in stoppage time when a high ball sent in from the wing was fisted to the net but this proved to be just a consolations score.

U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U14 Footballers got their Championship campaign back on track with a comprehensive win over Rhode Og last Saturday evening in Ballinagar on a scoreline of 6-09 to 3-06. Na Fianna were in complete control in the first half and lead at half time by 4-05 to 0-04 with the goals coming from Kevin Kinahan (2), Jack O’Brien and Colin McDermott. The second half was played in a torrential downpour throughout which meant that passes and consequently scores were much more difficult to put together but Na Fianna did manage to tag on another 2-04 with one of the goals coming from Kevin Kinahan to complete his hat-trick and the other from Clint Horan. Rhode  managed to add another 3-02 to their tally but 2 of the goals came in the last 10 minutes when the game was long over as a contest.

Na Fianna got going straight from the throw in and by half time had opened up a 3-06 to 0-06 lead thanks to goals from Jason Darby(2) and Gary Martin along with points from Gary Martin, Aaron Dwane, Richie Reynolds (2), Niall Dempsey and Dean Cahill. Gracefield started the second half brightly and had the deficit cut to 2 points within 10 mins of the re-start having put over 4 points and a goal from a penalty.
