Spin South West & national radio stations come together for ‘Wear to Care’

Some of Ireland’s biggest and well-known radio stations are joining forces on Friday 18th December to raise much needed funds to support cancer patients and their families.

Partnering with The Irish Cancer Society, Today FM, Newstalk, 98FM, SPIN 1038, SPIN South West and Off The Ball are calling on their listeners, friends, families, colleagues and businesses across Ireland to Wear to Care’ in the hope of raising hundreds of thousands of euro to fund vital cancer services and research.
In 2020 alone, cancer claimed the lives of 9,000 people in Ireland while 44,000 people received a cancer diagnosis. Earlier this month, The Irish Cancer Society lit up 9,000 lights to remember those who died from the disease.

On Friday December 18th, the group of radio stations are asking Ireland to ‘Wear to Care’ by throwing on a Christmas Jumper, wrapping yourself in tinsel, rocking a Santa hat or even donning your festive PJs and wearing them all day, with just one condition: if you dress up, you donate! Donations can be made online at www.justgiving.ie/weartocare or by texting WEAR 50300 to donate €4.
Text costs €4. Irish Cancer Society will receive a minimum of €3.60. Service Provider: Likecharity. Helpline: 0766805278

Radio presenters including Ian Dempsey, Dermot & Dave, Ciara Kelly and Pat Kenny will all Wear to Care on the day and ask their listeners to join in. Across the day on Friday, 18th December Today FM and Newstalk will hear from people living with cancer and those helping cancer patients and their families including Night Nurses and Volunteer Drivers.

Conor King, Irish Cancer Society’s Acting CEO said “We are delighted to be working with Communicorp Media on Wear to Care this Christmas.  2020 has been an extremely difficult year for cancer patients and their families. It has been a year where cancer patients were forced to stay apart from friends and family when they badly needed emotional support, where treatment plans were changed and patients attended appointments alone. With your generous support the Irish Cancer Society will be able to continue providing vital services and support to the cancer community in Ireland, when they need it most.  Every Euro raised for Wear to Care will ensure nobody in Ireland has to face cancer alone”.

This isn’t the first time Communicorp Media radio stations have come together for a worthy cause, earlier this year the group launched its ‘Formal Friday for Frontline Heroes’ fundraising campaign which raised over €160,000 for vital frontline services across Ireland.
Tune into Today FM, Newstalk, 98FM, SPIN 1038, SPIN South West and Off The Ball on Friday 18th December to follow and support #Weartocare.
