Raheen Senior Footballers were made to pay the ultimate price for not pushing on when ahead in the closing stage of their opening Senior B Championship encounter against Ballycumber last Sunday afternoon in O’Connor Pk, Tullamore as Ballycumber claimed the win on a scoreline of 3-10 to 2-10. Ballycumber opened the scoring with a pointed free before Raheen got on the scoreboard on 3 mins with a goal when Danny McEvoy’s ground pass to Dylan Hyland who dribbled it round the keeper and then his goalbound shot was knocked into his own net by a Ballycumber defender for an og. Raheen added 2 points before a quick break through the middle on 12 mins saw Ballycumber raise their first green flag. Both sides then added 3 points apiece before Ballycumber hit the net for their second goal on 25 mins but Raheen closed the half with 3 points in row to lead at the break by just the minimum 1-08 to 2-04. Raheen got the perfect start to the second half as they struck for their second goal straight from the throw in when Richie Reynolds run in from the corner saw him shoot past the keeper and tapped into the net by Dylan Hyland. Over the next 25 mins Ballycumber added 5 points to Raheen’s 2. Then as the game went into the final min Raheen still led by 1 but they were made pay for trying to run down the clock as Ballycumber got in to score their 3rd goal and wrapped it up with a pointed free in stoppage time.
