Na Fianna GAA Football Club Notes 5th July

Na Fianna Minor Footballlers began their championship campaign last Monday week against Ferbane / Belmont in Geashill but it was Ferbane / Belmont who claimed the win on a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-07. Na Fianna opened the scoring in the 2nd min with a pointed free from Richie Reynolds but for the next half hour Ferbane completely dominated the game scoring 11 points in a row. Then in first half stoppage time Na Fianna were awarded a penalty when Jack Keogh was brought down in the box, Dean Cahill stepped up to take it and blasted his shot to the top corner of the net. This gave Na Fianna some glimmer of hope as they went into the break trailing by 0-11 to 1-01. In the first 15mins of the second half Dean Cahill put over 3 more frees for Na Fianna but each time he did Ferbane replied with a pointed free of their own. The final 15 mins saw Na Fianna reduce the defecit with 3 more points from Jack Keogh, Dean Cahill and Richie Reynolds with Ferbane adding just 1 final point but it was not enough and Ferbane held on to claim the win.
