Originally established in 1985 to provide support and understanding to those impacted by depression, bipolar disorder and related mood conditions, Aware has evolved over the years to also recognise the importance of promoting positive mental health in order to work towards reducing the prevalence of mental illness. Aware now provides a number of Support Services to include 35 Support & Self Care Groups nationwide, a Freephone Support Line (1800 80 48 48) and Support Mail – both of which operate 365 days a year. Aware also delivers education programmes nationwide to empower adults and young people with the knowledge and skills to look after their mental health and build resilience to deal with the stresses of modern everyday life.

Speaking about the event, Brid O’Meara, Director of Services at Aware said: “The VHI Mini Marathon offers the perfect excuse to get family and friends together and have a great day out, with the feel good factor of raising money for your charity of choice. With 1 in 10 experiencing depression in Ireland, we all know someone who has been impacted, whether a family member, a friend or a colleague. I really hope that women throughout Ireland will consider joining Team Aware and help us to raise vital funds so we can continue to provide services that make a real difference in people’s lives.”
