Motorsport Ireland National Navigation Championship

Second place for the Monaghan-Cork combination of Derek Mackarel and Muireann Hayes in the Skibbereen 100 Isles Navigation Trial was enough to increase their lead in the National Navigation Championship as it reached its halfway point.

Clear winners of the 85 mile event based on Castlehaven, near Castletownshend, were Owen Murphy and Daire Hayes, who beat his sister into second position by 28 marks. Three more Cork crews followed to complete a virtual clean sweep of all the top places, with semi-expert winners Andrew Whelton and Cyril Maguire taking third overall.

After a thrilling duel all day, Mickey Conlon narrowly beat fellow Escort driver Joseph Smith to win the Cavan Loose Surface Autocross at Latton by just over a second, with the biggest gap between the pair standing at 0.48 seconds and the smallest, four hundredths of a second.
