Clara GAA Notes

Ballad Group
Commiserations to our ballad group who were, unfortunately, beaten in the Scor All-Ireland Final in Citywest on Saturday.  Despite not adding another All-Ireland title to their haul, it was still a fantastic year. They Ballad group have, over the years, and continue to make the club and the town proud. Congratulations to Aisling Cornally, Maura Eivers, Colette Rabbette, John Scanlon and Paul Scanlon and their mentor Nora Heneghan-Kavanagh on another great year. We have no doubt you’ll be back to the top again.

Minor Football League
Clara made it two wins from two in the Minor Football League in Cappincur on Friday evening with a convincing win over St. Vincents. The rain that fell in the hour before the match made for tricky playing conditions but both teams managed to play some excellent football despite this. Clara got off to a flier, opening up a 1-1 to 0-0 lead inside a minute. The game settled and both teams found their stride but it was Clara who built on their early lead and went in 2-09 to 0-6 up at the break. Again, after half time-it was Clara who started the best, but as the game wore on we lost our concentration and conceded some 1-2 in the last few minutes of the game. Despite this, we recorded an impressive 2-16 to 1-10 win at the final whistle. The Clara team and scorers were Wesley Johnson, Josh Kearney, Callium Egan, Darryl O’Brien, Conor Egan, Dermot Doolan (1-0), Ciaran Doyle, David Falsey, George Robbins (0-3), Johnny Hanamy, Stephen Buckley (0-4), Mark Newman (0-3, 1f), Josh Fleming (1-2), Keith Taylor, Luke Dignam (0-3). Subs: Josh McCloskey for D. O’Brien, Brandon Tobella for K. Taylor, Chris Egan (0-1) for J. Hanamy, Kieran Hartnett for C. Egan, J Hanamy for S. Buckley, D. O’Brien for M. Newman

Under 16 Football Championship
Clara recorded a very impressive 8-18 to 0-2 win over Rhode in the Under 16 Football Championship last Monday evening. Equally impressive in both halves, they led by 4-11 to 0-0 at the break and continued their dominance throughout the second half.
