Na Fianna GAA Club Notes

U21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL

Na Fianna U21 Footballers fine run in the Championship was brought to an end by Tullamore at the Semi Final stage last Thursday evening in Croghan on a scoreline of 2-07 to 0-05. The game started brightly for Na Fianna as they opened the scoring with Kevin Kinahan’s pointed free on 4 mins but Tullamore then got going as they got off the mark with 4 points in a row over the next 10 mins. Then disaster struck for Na Fianna with just over 5 mins of the half left as Tullamore banged in 2 goals within the space of a minute, the first a lineball near the endline worked across the field and flicked to the net, the second a high ball into the square where the forward punched the ball to the net in a one on one with the keeper. Both sides then added a point apiece and so at the break Tullamore led comfortably 2-05 to 0-02. Tullamore extended their lead with the opening point of the second half but Na Fianna hit back with the next 2 pointed frees by the 5th min. Tullamore then lost their influental forward Adam Shelly to a black card on 7 mins. Teh remainder of the game saw both sides add just 1 more point apiece and in stoppage time Na Fianna’s bad night was compounded when Richie Reynolds and Dylan Hyland were both red carded.
