Na Fianna GAA Club Notes

U21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL

Na Fianna U21 Footballers are through to the Semi Finals of the Championship after brushing aside the challenge of last year’s beaten finalist’s St Patricks (Edenderry) in their Quarter final encounter last Sunday morning in Edenderry on a scoreline of 3-13 to 3-04. St Patricks opened the scoring with a pointed free straight from the throw in to lead for the first and only time. Na Fianna then got on the scoreboard in fine style with 2 goals, the first on 5 mins a 45m free taken by David Buckley was caught by Kevin Kinahan in the square who turned and blasted the ball past the keeper into the net, the second on 8 mins when Niall Dempsey dispossessed a St Patricks attack and launched a counter attack passing to Richie Reynolds who in turn laid it off to the in-running David Buckley about 30m out who ran in and planted it in the net. Na Fianna added their first 3 points before a crazy last 5 mins of the half saw St Patricks get right back into it by getting in to score 3 goals but another 3 points for Na Fianna ensured they would lead at the break 2-06 to 3-01. Again St Patricks were first off the mark with a pointed free inside the first min of the second half to leave the minimum in it but a 6 point tally for Na Fianna to just a single point reply from St Patricks over the next 20 mins sent Na Fianna on their way and when Richie Reynolds fired in Na Fianna’s 3rd goal with 7 mins left it was game, set and match to Na Fianna . Both sides added 1 more point apiece in the time remaining. Na Fianna will now be drawn against either St Vincents, Tullamore or St Manchans Gaels in the Semi Final.
