Na Fianna GAA Club Notes

U21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 1ST ROUND

Na Fianna U21 Footballers got the 2015 playing campaign underway with a win against Rhode parish side St Michaels in the 1st Rd of the U21 Championship last Friday night in Rhode on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-06 and in doing so gained their first win at the grade in 3 years. Na Fianna were first off the mark with the opening 3 points before St Michaels with their first attack scrambled in a goal in the 5th min. Na Fianna then added 4 points  to St Michaels 1 before  3 points in a row in the last few mins of the half drew the Rhode side level again but Dylan Hyland slotted over another point in the last min to edge Na Fianna back in front at the break 0-08 to 1-04. Na Fianna got the perfect start to the second half when straight from the throw in the ball was worked quickly upfield where it came to Richie Reynolds in the square who blasted it to the net for the Na Fianna’s 1st goal and they added a point moments later. This is how it remained until the final 10 mins when the sides exchanged 2 points apiece. Then with just 2 mins left Na Fianna wrapped it up with what would prove to be the final score when Niall Dempsey sent in a high ball from the wing which was met by the in-running Adam Kinahan in the square and he punched it first time to the net for Na Fianna’s second goal. Na Fianna now move on to face Edenderry side St Patricks in the Quarter Final in next weekend.
