130th Anniversary Celebrations
On Saturday night last, we celebrated our 130th Anniversary in the GAA Social Centre. As part of the night, we presented out recent Leinster Special Junior Hurling champions with their medals and we also recognised and celebrated our Offaly Junior Hurling Champions of 1983. It was a great opportunity to recognise and acknowledge our success with the small ball, both past and present.
On the night, we were delighted to welcome our special guests, Offaly GAA Chairman, Padraig Boland and 8 time All-Ireland winner, Eddie Brennan, who presented the medals. Clara GAA would like to sincerely thank both Padraig and Eddie for their attendance and kind words on the night. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped out in helping to make it a successful night.
Division 1 Minor Football League Final.
Clara travelled over to Croghan on Friday evening to play St. Vincent’s in the league final. In bitter cold conditions the few people that turned up were treated to a fantastic game of football. Both teams played some great attacking football and some great scores were taken by both sides. Mark Fallon made a couple of world class saves early in the game as Clara got the break through at the mid way point in the first half with a goal taken by Steven Buckley. We had a 5 point lead at that stage but let Vincent’s back into the game and they lead by 1 at the tea break on a score line of Clara 1-05 St. Vincent’s 0-09. Ross Brady is normally a cool character but he let fly at half time letting the players know that this game was there for the taking. Vincent’s went a further 2 ahead early in the second half before Clara got back playing the kind of football we are used to, attacking from the back and tackling from the front. 2 more cracking goals by Carl Stewart who ended up on the fringe of the square and substitute David Fleming sealed a good win on a score line of Clara 3-09 St. Vincent’s 0-15.

This minor team has trained extremely hard this year and fully deserve to get some silverware out of it although it wasn’t the big one.

National Club Draw
Tickets are currently on sale for the GAA National Club Draw. 100% of all money collected goes back into the club and there are some great prizes to be won. Tickets are available from any committee member.
