Clara GAA Club Notes

Under 16 Hurling Championship
Clara travelled down to Shinrone earlier this evening in the under 16 hurling championship and after a shaky start went in at half time trailing 1-06 to 2-02. Some strong words were had during the break and we gave an exhibition of quick direct hurling in the first 15 minutes of the second half. This was an entertaining game played in torrential rain. We out scored Shinrone by 3-09 to 0-03 in the second half.
The Full Time score was: Clara 5-11- Shinrone 1-10. The Clara team was: Eoin Dunne, Mark Doorley, Callium Egan, Alex Roe, Conor Egan, David Falsey, Josh Kearney, Jack Bracken, Seamus O Brien, Daryl O Brien (0-1), Ciaran Doyle (1-0), Cathal O’Meara (1-0), Josh Fleming (0-8), Mark Newman (2-1), Nathan Bracken (0-1)
Subs:
Thomas Dolan (1-0) for Gary Kelly, Gary Kelly for Nathan Bracken

Thanks to the mentors that helped on the night: Jim McGrath, Brian Gavin, Padraig O Meara, Mel Doyle and Kevin Roe.

Minor Football Championship
Clara played Tullamore on Wednesday 27th of August in O’Connor Park and won on a convincing score line of 4-16 to 0-1. Clara played with a strong wind in the first half and despite some wayward shooting led by 2-07 to 0-00 at half time. Clara worked very hard in the second half working the ball through the hands while playing into the wind. They were much more clinical in the second half keeping the wide count to a minimum and ran out big winners in the end.
The Clara team was: Wesley Johnson, Dermot Doolan (0-1), Martin Fleming, Callum Egan, David Falsey, Carl Stewart (1-0), Colm Doyle, Alan Gavin (0-5), Leon Egan (0-1), Stephen Buckley (1-2), David Fleming (0-1), George Robbins (0-1), Seamus O’Brien, Darren Fleming, Luke Dignam (2-5, 0-3frees)
Subs: Jonny Hanamy for Darren Fleming, Ryan Kelly for C Egan, Josh Kearney for S O’Brien, Ciaran Doyle for D Falsey, Seamus O’Brien for C Doyle(inj)

Under-14 Football Championship
Clara travelled to Birr on Thursday 28th of August in the under 14 football championship. From the throw in we showed huge commitment and desire to win every ball. Every player won their individual battle and we played some fantastic quick football for the first half against a strong wind. The big open spaces of the St. Brendans park pitch suited Clara as we opened up the Birr defence time after time. We had a big wind advantage in the second half along with very heavy rain left conditions very tricky and we just couldn’t convert the many chances that we created. Well done lads on our best performance of the year so far. Great team effort by 1 to 15. The Clara team was Kian Fitzpatrick, Jason Delaney, Ciaran Ennis, Thomas Devine, Steven Falsey, Conor Dolan, Edbhaird Ó Chuilleain, Cathal O’Meara (0-3), Aaron Touhey, Jack Reynolds (0-2), Cormac Delaney (1-3), Lorcan Cornally (0-1), Shane Gavin, Adam Kelly (1-0), Aodhan Moran (1-0)
Thanks to the team management of John Reynolds, Kieran O Meara and Dessie Dolan.

Thanks also to all the parents, yet again we travelled to the other end of the county and out-numbered the locals.
