Temple Street Children’s Hospital is asking the women of Offaly to run walk or jog the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon

Offaly woman Josephine Fahey’s daughter Aoife has been attending Temple Street Children’s Hospital since she was just 4 years old. Josephine, from Edenderry, is asking the women of Offaly to take part in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on June 2nd to raise funds for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital. The hospital aims to get a team of 1,500 females together to raise €100,000 to help fund equipment such as anaesthetic machines used to support the administration of anesthesia during theatre procedures. Temple Street’s Women’s Mini Marathon team is proudly supported by Johnston Mooney and O’Brien.
The Flora Women’s Mini Marathon 10k is one of Temple Street’s largest fundraising campaigns and is an easy and fun way for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and friends to raise funds for babies and children from all over Ireland who desperately need your help. Speaking about the Women’s Mini Marathon Josephine said, “This 10km event is a great and simple way to get fit and be part of the life-saving team in Temple Street. My daughter Aoife acquired a brain injury from a viral infection that she contracted. Aoife is now 11 and attends Temple Street regularly”.

Josephine continued, “I am doing the Mini Marathon this year to help support the hospital that has supported my daughter so much over the years and I am asking ladies from all over Offaly to join Aoife and I in this challenge”!
Also speaking about the Women’s running event, Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive Officer of Fundraising said, “We are asking all women – mothers, grandmothers, aunties or sisters to throw on their trainers and make a difference to the lives of the little patients in our hospital. I meet families from all over Ireland that have been touched by Temple Street in some way, given that we care for over 145,000 children every year. The hospital is committed to ensuring children and babies from all over Ireland get world-class medical care and we can only do it with your help!”

Temple Street Children’s University Hospital
Temple Street was founded in 1872. Temple Street is an acute paediatric hospital serving some of Ireland’s sickest children and providing a referral and care service on both a regional and national basis. Seven major specialities at Temple Street today include neonatal and paediatric surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, nephrology, orthopaedics, ENT and plastic surgery. The Hospital is also the national centre for paediatric ophthalmology, the national craniofacial centre, the national airway management centre, the national meninogococal laboratory, the national centre for inherited metabolic disorders and the national screening centre. Temple Street cares for over 145,000 children per year. Over 52,000 of these children attend the Emergency Department every year making it one of the busiest in Europe. A staff of 85 Consultants and over 950 other full time and part time nursing, paramedical and other staff deliver care.
