Exhibiting in February Time Maura Fahy Having worked as an art teacher for twenty years, Maura Fahy made the decision to change career and become a full-time artist in 2001. Since then she has developed her own studio “Papillon” in Durrow and has exhibited widely throughout Ireland and abroad. Blending influences from her spirituality with those from nature and with sensitivity and harmony, the inspiration for this exhibition stems from a childhood fascination with the Dandelion flower – it’s shape, softness and it’s magical ability to disappear in a second. Tuesday 4 February Birr Film Club – “Love Is All You Need” Dir: Susanne Bier, Denmark, 2012, 116 mins, Cert: 15A, Language Danish. Starring: Trine Dyrholm, Pierce Brosnan, Molly Blixt Egelind, Sebastien Jensen, Paprika Steen, Kim Bodnia, Christiane Schaumburg-Muller, Micky Skeel Hansen. In a standard romantic comedy, the manner in which Philip (Brosnan), a widower/workaholic fruit-and-vegetable mogul, and Ida (Dyrholm), a cancer survivor now weathering her husband’s infidelity, first cross paths might be construed as a “meet cute.” However, Oscar-winning director Susanne Bier (In a Better World) is aspiring to something far more sophisticated here. As these strangers jet off to sunny Sorrento for the wedding of his son and her daughter, they tumble into a charming drama containing all of Bier’s exemplary character dynamics and meticulous construction – Vancouver International Film Festival 2012. €7/€5/€3

Based on Salman Rushdie’s Booker Prize-winning novel and combining historical fiction with dark fantasy, the story centres on Saleem Sinai, born at the stroke of midnight on the eve of India’s independence from Britain. As a child, he discovers he has the power to communicate with the hundreds of children around the nation born that night, and that each of them possess a magical power. The strongest of these is Shiva, an angry, impoverished youth whose fate is inextricably linked to Saleem – Calgary International Film Festival 2012.
