Where’s Wally hunt brings summer fun to Cloughjordan

WHERE’S WALLY?, the world’s favourite children’s book character in striped shirt and black-rimmed specs, is once again travelling the country, including a visit to nine different local businesses in Cloughjordan from Wednesday, 24 July to Saturday, 27 July. Anyone can search for Wally, and it’s free to participate. When you find all the Wallys, you can enter a draw for great Wally prizes!

To participate, collect an “I found Wally” card when you spot Wally in these businesses: Austin’s Centra, C & S Williams Traditional Meats and Hardware, Cloughjordan Pharmacy, Cloughjordan post office, Dawn O’Sullivan Antiques, Murphy’s shop, Rohan’s shop, Sheelagh na Gig bookshop, and Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre. Collecting cards and handing them in at Sheelagh na Gig bookshop wins you Wally stickers and an entry for the grand prize draw, which is at the Where’s Wally? party on 28 July at 4pm in Sheelagh na Gig bookshop: wear a stripy shirt if you can! The grand prize is a deluxe Where’s Wally? 25th Anniversary Edition book and a copy of the Where’s Wally? Totally Essential Travel Collection presented in a limited edition Where’s Wally? bag.

Wally is the creation of Martin Handford, whose entertaining drawings of crowd scenes swept the world in 1987. Since then, the Where’s Wally? books have held a favourite spot on bookstore shelves the world over. Published by Walker Books, 56 million copies have been sold worldwide in over 38 countries and 30 languages, including Egyptian, Korean and Hebrew. An entire generation has grown up searching for Wally and his friends Woof, Wenda, Wizard Whitebeard and Odlaw.

In celebration of Wally’s longevity and popularity, Walker Books is teaming up with the Booksellers Association’s Indiebound ‘Get Local’ campaign and 100 independent bookshops across the country, including Sheelagh na Gig bookshop in Cloughjordan, to have fun and encourage people to visit local businesses. There is no charge to participate, and the game lasts  until 28 July.
