U14 PRE-FEILE BLITZ

In preparation for the All-Ireland U14 Football Feile competition which takes place in Laois & Offaly in June this year Coiste na nOg in Laois & Offaly arranged a Pre-Feile Blitz to take place in various venues in Laois & Offaly last Saturday morning. Na Fianna U14 Footballers took part in the blitz in Rhode where following the late withdrawl of Laois’ Park/Ratheniska meant Na Fianna would be up againts Rhode & Ballycumber / Tubber with Rhode up first. This being Na Fianna’s first game of the year it took a few minutes to get up to match speed but despite conceeding an early goal Na Fianna recovered to lead at half time 2-04 to 1-03. Rhode had the advantage of the strong breeze in the second half and this proved to be decisive as it helped them keep the ball in Na Fianna’s half which saw Rhode turn it round to win on a full time score of 2-09 to 2-05. There was little time to rest for Na Fianna as they straight back into action for their second game against Ballycumber / Tubber and in an evenly balanced first half it was Ballycumber / Tubber who were just shading it at half time 0-03 to 0-02. Straight from the re-start Ballycumber / Tubber scored a goal but from hereon it was one way traffic as Na Fianna took full advantage of the wind scoring 2-05 without reply to win on a full time score of 3-07 to 1-03. Overall it was an enjoyable day for all involved and good preperation for what lies ahead later in the year.
