JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Raheen Hurlers concluded the Junior Championship group stage without a win after losing the final round game against Edenderry in Edenderry last Tuesday week on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-05. Raheen opted to play with the gale force wind in the first half and this saw them start brightly as they opened the scoring with the first 3 points from Jason Hassett, Brian Kennedy and Ciaran Direen inside the first 10 mins. Edenderry then got going, getting off the mark with 4 points in a row over the next 10 mins to go in front.Just on the stroke of half time Raheen got back in front by registering their goal when Niall Dempsey sent in a shot to the square from near the half way line which was saved but dropped by the keeper causing a scramble with Brian Kennedy finding the room to flick his shot to the net. This left Raheen leading at the break by 1-03 to 0-04. Almost from the throw in Colm Pidgeon sent over another point for Raheen but from the resultant puck out Edenderry got through to score their goal. The sides remained level for the next 10 mins but thereafter Edenderry gradually began to pull clear scoring 8 more points to which Raheen replied with just 1 more point from Jason Hassett. This defeat means Raheen go into the relegation playoff against Brosna Gaels with the loser making the grop back down to Junior B for next year.
