Clara Underage Hurling

Its been a busy few weeks for our underage hurlers. The U-8s played in two ground hurling blitzs in Ferbane on the astro-turf pitch over the last two mondays . Under the management of Wayne Bracken, Colm Scanlon and Noel Gavin. The lads played very well and enjoyed both blitzs thoroughly . They will continue to train every Thursday 6:30-7:30 along with the U-6s who are coached by Johnny Butler, Treasa Bracken and Oliver Deleany . Well done lads and keep up the good work.

The U-10s have had a very enjoyable summer with lots of games and two blitzs in Banagher.  Their last blitz was last saturday and they played 4 very enjoyable games. The team is coached by Paul Rabbette, Dessie Dolan and Clare Moran each Thursday 6:30-7:30

The U-12 Hurlers have played in the A group this year and have played 6 group games with 2 more still left to play and 2 challenge matchs and todate have 6 wins . The step up to to the higher grade has helped improve their standard and training has gone very well with Padraic O’Meara, Mel Doyle and Tony Egan putting the lads through their paces each Thursday 6:20-7:30 .

Sadly the U14 season was short with only 3 games in their group and their season ended July 8.This is something the County Board will have to address in the best interest of Offaly underage hurling.

Finally our U-16s played CRC Gaels last saturday in a very well prepared Mountbolus venue. It was the County semi-final and Clara came up short against a well drilled CRC Gaels team. Clara played well throughout but were unable to take any of their 4 goal chances with CRCs goalie and the woodwork keeping a clean sheet. And everybody knows goals win matches and CRC took their 3. However the lads fought bravely to the end and alot of heart can be taken from this preformance and with 17 out of the panel underage for next year they can look forward to the 2012 season. The team was well coached by James O’ Brien, Pat Phelan, Ned Buckley and Pat Kelly. thanks to the lads for their effort throughout the year.

Panel: Darren Fleming, Martin Fleming, Leon Egan, Niall Keenan, Adam Scanlon, Donal Recks, David Newman, Gavin Carrol, Steven Buckley, Carl Stewart, Adam Dolan, Alan Gavin, Kevin O’ Meara, Padraig Henry, Seamus O’ Brien, Mark Fallon, Colm Doyle, David Falsey, Ryan Kelly and Denis Hackett.

The coaching plan is to train for the next few weeks on Thursday at 6:20-7:30 and organize a final day of challenge games for our U8,U10,U12,U14 teams at Pairc Proncais at 11:30 September 18th. This will be a historic day having 4 club teams playing at the same time on our splendid facilities. Many thanks to all the lads for keeping the pitches in great condition for hurling. We will give more details closer to date.
