Na Fianna GAA Football Club Club Notes

LEINSTER FOOTBALL FEILE

Na Fianna U 14 Footballers took part in the Leinster Football Feile last weekend and were drawn in Div 4 with the games taking place in Portarlington. In their first game Na Fianna came up against Trim from Co Meath. A penalty just on the stoke of half time excellantly dispatched to the net by Clint Horan saw Na Fianna lead at the break by 1-03 to 0-05. Na Fianna maintained the lead until the last 5 mins of the second half when Trim pulled clear to claim the win on a scoreline of 2-04 to 4-09. This put Na Fianna through to play Park Ratheniska of Laois in the Quarter Final, who had already beaten Ballymahon of Longford in their first game and this Quarter Final proved to be a very exciting encounter. In the first half the Laois side raced into a 5 point lead before Na Fianna came back helped by 2 goals from Jack O’Brien to lead at the break by 2-02 to 0-05. Then in a dramatic second half the sides exchanged the lead on at least 5 separate occasions. Going into the last minute it was Na Fianna who were leading by 2 points and with virtually the last attack of the game Park Ratheniska broke through to score a goal which saw them win out by just the minimum margin on a scoreline of 3-08 to 3-07.This result saw Na Fianna bow out of the competition but the players can feel proud of their very encouraging display which they battled right to the end.
