Clara GAA Notes

Junior A Challenge match Vs Hugh O’Neills Leeds

Clara played Hugh O’Neills from Leeds on Saturday evening. Hugh O’Neills GAA Gaelic football club in Leeds was founded over 63 years ago and is the most successful and longest established Gaelic football in the north of Britain. Hugh O’Neills have won numerous Yorkshire Senior/Junior Championships and Leagues. Also winning the Pennine league and Shield 11 times. Our biggest success has to be the 2 Senior All-Britain Championships wins in 1982 and 1999. Being the only club in Yorkshire GAA history ever to win this competition. Our club pitch is located close to the city and many players who have come and gone have played under the Leeds City Skyline. The club was founded by Mr. Paddy Harahan and is still the clubs President to this day. He along with many more Irish travelled to Leeds looking for work and in turn gathered as much interest as possible in Irish tradition and started the Hugh O’Neills we know today. The Hugh O’Neills Panel was: Adam Jastek, Mick Rabbitte, John Hickey, Paul Sweetman, Michael Kearney, Paul Keane, Dave Keane, Mark Kerrigan, Kieran Fox, Dave Sheehan, Darren Casserly, Johnny Mac, Danny Hughes, Andy Macfarlane, Cahill Hughes, Aran Jeffreys, John Hickey (Kerry), Sean Murray (Cork), Conor McGrath (Cork)

U10 Football

On Saturday 25th June Clara u10s welcomed Kilcormac to Kilcoursey. Thankfully the rain held off and the game was played in perfect conditions. Bainisteoir Peter Delaney made a number of changes, most successfully in moving Ciaran Ennis into corner forward where he excelled scoring a total of 2-1. Clara played the one-hop one-solo game and it really suited their slick forwards who controlled the game and scored some brilliant points. The full panel of 28 got a run out and contributed to a fine win on a score of 6-5 to 0-3. Special mention must go to Thomas Devine and Lee Tierney as both players stood out on the day. Well done to the entire squad and mentors who are having a terrific season to date.
