U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U14 Footballers alike their U16 counterparts got their first win of this year’s Championship campaign as they also came out on top against Clara last Wednesday evening in Ballinagar with a pulsating second half display on a scoreline of 4-11 to 3-12. Na Fianna started the first half brightly getting off the mark with 1-02 without reply inside the first 3 minutes with Kevin Kinahan firing the ball to the net. Things went downhill for Na Fianna during the remainder of the half as Clara got going and by half time Clara held what appeared to be a comfortable lead of 3-06 to 1-03. Na Fianna gave themselves some hope with a good start to the second half by scoring 1-01 without reply inside the first 5 mins but over the next 20 mins the sides matched one another with Na Fianna sending over 6 points to which Clara replied with 5 points. Then with 5 minutes remaining Na Fianna reduced the defecit down to the minimum when Kevin Kinahan blasted in his third goal to capture his hattrick and the comeback was completed a minute later when John Tobin sent over the equalising point. In the last minute of normal time Clara appeared to have sneaked it by putting over a free but Na Fianna never gave up and were rewarded in the second minute of stoppage time when Kevin Kinahan claimed a high ball in the square and laid it off to Liam Langton in the clear who blasted it to the net to the delight of all the Na Fianna players, managemement and supporters upon which the final whistle went.
