Ferbane GAA Club notes for Week Ending 26th December

ST STEPHENS DAY

For the seventh year in succession, Ferbane GAA field will be the place to be on St Stephens Day as the now traditional charity event will take place. This year’s event is a cycle, walk and obstacle course, starting at 2pm, and all funds raised will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy Ireland. The event is specifically geared towards absolutely everyone, so people of all shapes, sizes, ages, genders and indigestions are encouraged to make their way down to the field to be part of the fun and games.

There will also be a raffle later that night with several prizes that have been kindly donated by local businesses, and the event should continue well into the evening.

All support, at any stage of proceedings, would be very welcome for this very worthy cause.

AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Ferbane GAA club took place last Friday night in the Heritage Centre. A good crowd of people were in attendance for what turned out to be an eventful but constructive meeting. Issues such as club finances, management teams, and other day to day aspects were all discussed, while there was also widespread praise for Ferbane/Belmont minor club in the light of their outstanding achievements.

Outgoing Chairman Aidan Doyle gave a heartfelt speech about what it meant to him to serve Ferbane club for the year in the role, and while he chose to step away from the position of Chairman, he will continue to serve the club next year in the equally demanding role of secretary. Outgoing Secretary Barney Flynn also gave his report, and in doing so drew a line under a lifetime of service to the club in various roles. His tireless work ethic and always helpful personality was central to the running of the club for several years and while he no longer retains an official position, he will always be an integral figure in Ferbane GAA.

Liam Flaherty moves from Vice Chairman to Chairman for the year and the club is very grateful to have a steady hand like Liam available, a man who always been a hard working servant of the club in many roles.
