Ferbane GAA Club notes for w/e 26th September

UPCOMING FIXTURES

The fixtures continue to come thick and fast for the club and the action starts this Friday night at 8pm, when Ferbane Juniors play Ballinagar in a Junior championship relegation final in Tubber. With the Junior B’s still going strong it is unclear if relegation is on the table or not, but regardless of this issue, it would be nice to clear matters up by securing Junior A status in this tie. Any junior footballers who are available to play in this fixture are asked to make sure that they contact George Digan to confirm this and to do their part in ending the Junior A season on a high note.

On Saturday lunchtime, 1.30pm in Ballycumber, Ferbane/Belmont minor footballers meet 2009 minor champions Clara in a championship quarter final. Our club has had a wonderful year at underage football and joined Edenderry (1992) and Clara (1995) as the only clubs to win under-12, under-14 and under-16 championships in the one year. Clara in 1995 also added the Minor crown to that list of achievements and this team is just three games away from matching that historic achievement. The round robin game between these two clubs was a draw so a tight game in Ballycumber is sure to be in store, however a strong body of support for the lads could make a big difference, so all GAA supporters in the parish are urged to get to Ballycumber for what should be an excellent clash between two fine teams.

Finally on Sunday in Doon at 12 noon, the Junior B footballers face Ballycumber in their championship semi final. It has been a great year for the Junior B’s so far but Ballycumber too have been making great strides in this group and this looks set to be a very tough fixture. This group of players are on a roll after taking the Junior C crown last year and it would be great to bring another trophy back to Ferbane and keep the momentum in the club going in the right direction. The match is ideally fixed just before dinner time and only a short hop away, so any supporters available to head to Doon should do so and help ensure that the parish is represented in at least one adult final in 2010.

CONGRATULATIONS

Well done to the Offaly camogie team who performed so well in Croke Park last Sunday, bringing home their second All Ireland title in two years. Particular congratulations to Aoife Kelly, who is of course a member of the teaching staff in Gallen school.

COMMISERATIONS

Hard luck to the Ferbane ladies footballers who fell just short in their Junior championship final against Killeigh recently. The ladies have represented the club really well this year and if luck had fallen a little more in their favour in the final, they could easily have lifted a richly deserved trophy. Hopefully 2011 will bring the success that the hard work of this group of players and management deserve.

RACE NIGHT

Ferbane GAA club will be holding a fundraising race night in Hineys on Saturday, the 2nd of October. As anyone who has attended one of these nights can testify, a great evening of entertainment lies in store and everyone would do well to free up this space in their diaries. For those who would like to support the club, horses can be sponsored and named for €20 and all donations are greatly received. Anyone wishing to sponsor a horse can do so by contacting any committee member with their horse name.
